Looking: The Movie
The HBO drama's swan song

The HBO series Looking—which attempted to offer a realistic depiction of gay life by focusing on Patrick Murray (Jonathan Groff) and his group of friends who lived in San Francisco, faced an ongoing onslaught of relationship problems and did their best to evolve into thoughtful, caring human beings—only lasted two years. Although the show didn’t achieve blockbuster viewership numbers, it generated enough positive buzz and at times delivered such surprisingly powerful emotional moments that HBO decided to give the series one last celebratory, elongated send-off with Looking: The Movie. The film, which debuts July 23, is directed by Andrew Haigh, who is best known for the movie Weekend and last year’s Oscar-nominated Charlotte Rampling drama 45 Years. As you’ll see in this trailer, the film aims to tie up all of Patrick’s emotional loose ends both in his friendships and his love life.
