MARK RONSON’S WATCH THE SOUND
Stories Of Making That Perfect Song

Mark Ronson is getting his own Apple TV+ six-part docuseries, Watch the Sound With Mark Ronson, streaming July 30. In case you don’t know, Ronson is a British-American D.J., record producer, songwriter, and overall song-and-music man extraordinaire. He’s the secret ingredient behind hits such as Valerie by Amy Winehouse, Uptown Funk by Bruno Mars, and Nothing Breaks Like A Heart by Miley Cyrus. He’s also worked with Adele, Lady Gaga, Lily Allen, Robbie Williams, and Queens of the Stone Age. He makes music from basically nothing and can somehow string melodies together out of thin air.

He’s been seemingly M.I.A. since his last album, Late Night Feelings, which was released in 2019. It featured singers such as Miley Cyrus, Lykke Li, Camila Cabello, and King Princess and is described as a collection of ‘sad bangers’ by none other than Ronson himself. (We’ll be listening to it on repeat as we longingly wait for the series to air.)
The show was produced by Morgan Neville, Mark Monroe, Jason Zeldes, Kim Rozenfeld, and Ronson in a team effort to make a show about music. In an interview with American Film Institute, Ronson revealed how the idea for the show came to life: “[Neville and I] came up with sampling, distortion, synthesizers, reverb, autotune and drum machines… We knew we could talk about these things… and talk to really interesting people with those subheadings, and the main thing we kept coming back to was this very human element, that all of these things kind of sucked until someone used it the wrong way. Something comes out the wrong way, and suddenly someone goes, ‘oh, this is music changing before our eyes.’” He then described these moments as ‘happy accidents,’ there is no better way to define them.

As far as what the series will be like, we pretty much only know what Apple TV+ has described the series as:
“Each episode of Watch the Sound with Mark Ronson will follow Ronson as he uncovers the untold stories behind music creation and the lengths producers and creators are willing to go to find the perfect sound. Ronson explores music’s intersection with artistry and technology in candid conversations with music legends and icons including Paul McCartney, Questlove, King Princess, Dave Grohl, Adrock and Mike D from the Beastie Boys, Charli XCX and more, where he discovers the ways in which these unique tools have influenced their work. At the end of each episode, Ronson will create and unveil a unique piece of original music using groundbreaking technology and techniques including reverb, synth, autotune, drum machines, sampling and distortion.”
It sounds like we’ll see a few major guest appearances, so this is a series you don’t want to miss! Be sure to check out the trailer below:
