MARK RUFFALO X2
Seeing Double in HBO's I Know This Much Is True
No, you’re not hallucinating. Mark Ruffalo plays two characters in the HBO series I Know This Much Is True. And, yes, the supporting cast features Rosie O’Donnell, Kathryn Hahn, Melissa Leo, Juliette Lewis and Archie Panjabi. Oh, it’s also from the writer/director Derek Cianfrance, who gave us PROVOKR favorite Blue Valentine. I mean, could it get any better?
Now, let’s dive into this emotional drama. Derek Cianfrance adapted the limited series from the Wally Lamb book of the same name. The novel was featured as an Oprah’s Book Club selection in June 1998. The series marks the first television adaption of I Know This Much Is True.
Mark Ruffalo plays twin brothers Dominick and Thomas Birdsey. Dominick is a housekeeper in Connecticut. One day, he gets a call that his brother, Thomas, had an incident at his psychiatric institution. Thomas is a paranoid schizophrenic. Dominick then assumes the role of Thomas’s caretaker, which reminds him of a less-than-perfect childhood. When the pair reconnect, it seems that other relationships may be harmed. The story of love, loss and revitalization is sure to leave you with a lasting impression.
Mark Ruffalo hasn’t appeared in a recurring TV role since the 2000s The Beat. That may be because he has been busy playing The Incredible Hulk and acting in other movies that include Spotlight and Dark Waters. On the other hand, Kathryn Hahn is no stranger to an HBO viewer. Hahn may play Dominick’s wife and Rosie O’Donnell is in a social services-type role. Archie Panjabi (known for The Good Wife) adds some mystery, as usual. With the 7-part series debuting May 10, we at PROVOKR suggest you pick up the novel and prepare for this gut-wrenching series. It’s sure to be a doozy.
