Beyonce says, “girls run the world,” but that’s not always true in the real world. And it sure wasn’t the case when the Equal Rights Amendment was first introduced in 1923, then passed but never ratified between 1972 and 1982. A collaboration between FX and Hulu, Mrs. America, brings a strong cast to the streaming platform to showcase the unlikely force against the Women’s Liberation Movement.

The nine-part series — which begins on April 15 — follows Phyllis Schlafly played by the incomparable Cate Blanchett. Phyllis represented the “silent majority” of women in America fighting the ERA. Instead of standing up for women’s freedom to do whatever the f–k they wanted, the conservative housewife campaigned against it. On the flip side, the Women’s Liberation Movement with Gloria Steinem portrayed by Rose Byrne led a group of women who battled for equal rights.

Blanchett and Byrne are just two big names in this new, exclusive partnership between FX and Hulu. Here are some of the other actors included in the project: Uzo Aduba (Orange Is The New Black), Sarah Paulson (American Horror Story), Elizabeth Banks, Margo Martindale and James Marsden (Westworld) to name a few more. With the ERA coming back into the political limelight, Mrs. America will surely be an entertaining show that might teach you a few things about our past and current political landscape.
