Murder in the Bayou is a five part documentary-series that studies the murders of eight women in Jennings, Lousiana. The story is based on the novel Murder in the Bayou: Who Killed the Women Known as the Jeff Davis 8? by Ethan Brown, which follows the eight women and explores the sex, drugs, and corrupt politics of Louisiana from 2005-2009. Showtime is producing this series, and the first five episodes have been prepped for air throughout September. Brown is signed on as an Executive Producer for the show, promising an honest adaptation from the original novel.

The series’ trailer opens with captivating wide shots of Jennings, Louisiana and the words: “Jennings puts a curse on you. Either you’re going to make it, or you’re going to fall into that grave.” The cinematography is powerful and the sweeping wide shots take the viewer from stationary overhead shots to intimate close-ups which expose the honesty of characters. The imagery is creepy and the town of Jennings is depicted as extinct. In fashion with other crimes like drug dealing and extortion, which occurred in Jennings during the time of the murders, the documentary portrays Jennings as a place of distrust and a perfect breeding ground for killers and delinquents. Brown and Showtime’s reopening of these murder cases puts scrutiny on Jennings law enforcement who were somehow involved with covering up the murders.

The show is set to kick off at 9 PM on September 13. Make sure you tune in to get in on the murder mystery which plagues Jennings, Louisiana. See why this controversy inscribed the town with a new air of chaos that coupled lawmakers with lawbreakers and set up a terrifying exposition of eight women’s deaths.
