Netflix Gets Very “Dark”

A Disturbing Kidnapping Mystery from Germany

Netflix has always prided itself on its wide variety of content, from original movies like Bright and Beasts of No Nation, to shows like Lady Dynamite, BoJack Horseman, and Godless. Now, they’re gearing up to launch their first German-language production, Dark. Netflix is a global entity, so it’s only natural that they would expand to include more foreign-language programming with the aim to grow their audience, as well as the audience for a show which might not otherwise get the attention it deserves.

Set in a small German town, the ten-part series is shrouded in mystery, but the trailer hints at a kidnapping story set across decades, with potentially supernatural elements. Dark is already being compared to Stranger Things and the works of Stephen King, so we’re confident that it will be full of tense situations and unexpected plot twists for us to discuss at the office water cooler.

The stars of the show might be unfamiliar to American audiences, but one of the actors, Oliver Masucci, has a cult following for his role in the provocative black comedy, Guess Who’s Back?, in which he plays Adolf Hitler who time-travels to the present day and becomes a viral sensation in modern Germany.

Dark premieres December 1 on Netflix.
