Serbian tennis pro Ana Ivanovic

The Rio games will mark the third time Serbian tennis pro Ana Ivanovic has made it to the Olympics—well, sort of. In 2004, Ivanovic was all set to play in Beijing when a thumb injury took her out of the draw. Ivanovic described that turn of events as “one of the worst moments of my career.” In 2008, Ivanovic—who captured the French Open title as well as the world’s #1 ranking that year—finally did make it onto the Olympics’ courts, but lost in the third round of play. This time around, Ivanovic is hoping she can fend off physical ailments and her fellow competitors to bring back the ultimate Olympics souvenir. “This competition means a lot to me,” she’s said. “I love representing my country and it would be a dream to bring a medal to Serbia.”
