One of the things that makes Netflix’s women-in-prison drama Orange is the New Black such a groundbreaking show is the way it depicts sexual relationships between two women. Whereas most Hollywood fare reduces such couplings to superficially titillating scenes designed to appeal to the straight male gaze, OITNB delves into the messy nuances of woman-on-woman love and affection. Of course, OITNB also isn’t afraid to throw in some sexual theatrics for dramatic or comedic effect.
