ORANGE UNITES US ALL
Orange Is The New Black Is Back With A New Character

It’s never easy when your favorite shows come to an end. You either stare at your screen in your comfiest clothes prolonging the inevitable, or watch over and over again until you have the last lines memorized. That’s likely how Orange Is The New Black fans will react when Netflix’s show comes to an end July 26.
But sameness doesn’t continue. Along with Piper (Taylor Schilling), Alex (Lauren Prepon) and Crazy Eyes (Uzo Aduba), a newcomer joins the show. It’s unprecedented to introduce a new character in the final season, but if any series can pull it off, it’s OITNB.
That new character is Carla (played by Colombian actress Karina Arroyave), a widow who faces deportation to El Salvador, which would separate her from her two children. The finale isn’t sugarcoating anything. It’s going to be out in the open about what it’s discussing: ICE raids.
As the U.S. experiences a human rights crisis at the border of Mexico, Orange Is The New Black is here to provoke us like it has so many times. It will be explicit and show the horrors of the “camps” at the border, allowing us all to reflect on our own lives. Sure, we will still see our favorite characters and what Piper is up to post-prison, but the immigration tragedy is the main takeaway.
The new focus isn’t really surprising from OITNB. The show has been at the forefront of social issues. It introduced us to a slew of LGBTQ characters and showed us that, as the trailer says, there is one color that unites us all: orange.
The final 13 episodes of Orange Is The New Black will debut July 26 on Netflix.
