Dirty John + Janelle Monáe in Homecoming
Podcasts have been all the craze for the last several years, so naturally, some are now TV shows. Two of PROVOKR’s favorites return, Dirty John and Homecoming for two spectacular seasons.
HOMECOMING
The narrative podcast Homecoming is from Amazon Prime — and the series’ mystery turned heads and earned critical acclaim during season one. Julia Roberts was the lead in the first season, but her contract — and presumably her busy schedule — didn’t include a season two. But don’t worry, another icon now plays the lead role.
Janelle Monáe steps in as the main character. The anthology series takes place in the same VA hospital, Homecoming Transitional Support Center. Monáe plays Jackie, a woman who wakes up at Homecoming. The twists and turns continue throughout season two. As the tension builds, you’ll start to question everything you see on the screen. The season will deviate from the podcast, which is also set to release a second season. Watch it now on Amazon Prime.
DIRTY JOHN
Christopher Goffard of the LA Times offered stellar reports on John Meehan, aka Dirty John, on a podcast of the same name. The true-crime narrative was ripe for a TV adaptation and starred Connie Britton as protagonist Debbie Newell. She fell in love with conman John Meehan and provided a fresh perspective to the genre.
Season two of the anthology series switches from the Meehan story. Now it follows the divorce of Betty and Dan Broderick. They made headlines when Betty was accused and convicted of killing Dan and his second wife. Amanda Peet and Christian Slater play the famous couple in the forthcoming June 2 release on USA Network. The high-profile murder will surely provide a thrilling and captivating series. Be sure to tune in and catch up with season one on Netflix.
