Ridley Scott is heading to TV. The four-time Oscar nominee directed the first two episodes of the upcoming HBO Max series Raised By Wolves. The sci-fi thriller was announced in 2018 when it got a straight-to-series order from TNT, part of the WarnerMedia umbrella.

“I’m always searching for new frontiers in the sci-fi genre and have found a true original in  Raised by Wolves — a wholly distinct and imaginative world, full of characters struggling with existential questions: What makes us human? What constitutes a family? And what if we could start over again and erase the mess we’ve made of our planet? Would we survive? Would we do better?” Scott said.

In the trailer — watch that above — two androids called Mother (Amanda Colin) and Father (Abubakar Salim) take care of human embryos after the apocalypse. The embryos become children that the robots raise to be atheists. “It was belief in the unreal that destroyed the Earth,” Mother says in the trailer. But there’s a twist.

Before the humans left Earth, they created an ark. (Yes, think Noah’s ark). The humans, led by Vikings actor Travis Fimmel as Marcus, are there to save the children from the androids. An all-out war ensues, but it’s challenging to beat robots that can turn you into a mess of blood just by looking at you.

It’s obvious why Ridley Scott chose to attach his name to Raised By Wolves. Similarly to his feminist movie Alien, the woman has all of the power in this 10-episode series. Not to mention it’s compellingly pushing the boundaries of sci-fi. The graphics are stunning, the world is creative and Amanda Colin kicks ass. Keep an eye out for her next projects as her cold, protective demeanor will reel you in. Raised By Wolves premieres on HBO Max on September 3.
