BY: Zak Wojnar

The latest documentary series from Netflix explores the rise of Hip Hop through the stories of those who lived through it. Rapture explores the provocative art form, utilizing interviews with such performers as Nas, 2 Chainz, Dave East, Logic, T.I., and many more.

Hip Hop may have started in the United States, but it’s quickly become a global sensation, with artists around the world putting making their mark on the genre. Like rock and roll before it, hip hop is growing, evolving, changing with the times, and developing a passionate and dedicated fanbase which will only continue to increase as the years go by.

The eight-part series is directed by Sacha Jenkins, who first made a name for himself as the world of hip hop ‘zines before moving on to newspapers – like Beat Down – and magazines. His best known publication, Ego Trip, became a multimedia brand, expanding to include multiple television shows on VH1. Basically, when it comes to music and journalism, particularly as it pertains to hip hop, Jenkins knows his stuff.

Rapture debuts March 30 on Netflix.
