Red-Hot Orphan Black
Watch how sexy sci-fi TV can be

In addition to being a trippy futuristic saga about human clones, BBC America’s Orphan Black is also extremely forward-thinking about sex. Star Tatiana Maslany (who plays multiple roles as her character’s clones, including one who’s a lesbian scientist) has been very vocal about how careful the series has been to portray sex as one aspect of a character’s overall identity. “We offer good representation in terms of complex characters that aren’t defined just in terms of their sexuality, but by every facet of what it is to be a person,” Maslany told GLAAD (the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation). The show even introduced a female-to-male transgender character (also played by Maslany) into the mix in its second season. The thoughtful plotting and character development makes the show as intellectually provocative as it is erotically stirring, as this montage of some of the series sexual highlights proves.
