REVOLUTIONARY DONALD GLOVER

Musician. Comedian. Actor. And now, owner of his own Amazon Prime vertical. 

Donald Glover accepted an 8-figure, multi-year deal with Amazon. Under the contract, the 37-year old will have a channel dedicated to all of his work. 

Yes, Community fans may be able to stan, again. 

The only exclusion that will not transfer over is FX drama, Atlanta. With the Glover family recently renewing the show’s contract for two seasons, the hit show will remain on the channel, under the umbrella of Disney. A new season is expected to premiere later this year with season three filming in March. 

He will also have his hand in multiple new projects, with nods to old films and big-time names in place. 

Last week, it was revealed that Glover and English actor, writer and producer Phoebe Waller-Bridge of Fleabag and Killing Eve fame will co-produce and act as leads in a television series taken after the 2005 film Mr. and Mrs. Smith, which starred former Hollywood power couple, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. Let’s just hope they have the chemistry that “Brangelina” had back in the day. 

 

It was also announced that he will also produce a series called Hive. The show is said to be Beyonce-inspired, centered around a protagonist that takes after the singer in many ways. Watchmen’s Janine Nabers will be on hand for the piece.  But the biggest name will be in the writing room — former first daughter Malia Obama will be a writer for the show. 

Obama, no stranger to the entertainment industry, worked as a production assistant for Girls, the HBO comedy-drama series, in 2016. 

And today? She will land one of her first big-time jobs alongside the man known as Childish Gambino. 

Putting people on isn’t anything new for the comedian-turned-rapper, but with recent news, we can expect nothing but bigger things ahead.
