It’s not a stretch to say Sarah Paulson is in the prime of her career. The 45-year-old actress had become more visible in the last ten years, so it might be a surprise to find out she has been acting since 1994. With a slew of upcoming projects and certified hits in 2020 — Ryan Murphy’s Ratched premieres this month and Paulson shows no signs of slowing down.

“There had been a time where there really was an expiry date (for actresses),” she told Harper’s Bazaar last year. “You’d get to 40 and you’d probably have another five years maybe if you were a superstar. Otherwise good luck to you. I don’t think that’s the case any more. My career is direct evidence of that, my real success has come quite late. In my working life I have had more opportunities in front of me at this age than I’ve ever had before.”

In the Netflix series Ratched, Paulson plays the lead character based on Nurse Ratched from the classic film One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest. The Ryan Murphy production puts Paulson front and center as she has been in other Murphy projects like The People vs. O.J. Simpson and American Horror Story. In an interview with The New York Times, Murphy called her his muse.

“Steve McQueen thinks she’s like Bette Davis, and I think that’s true,” he said. “There is nobody who is a bigger life of the party than Sarah Paulson.”

Earlier this year, Paulson starred in the nine-part mini-series Mrs. America. It illustrated the 1960s women’s movement along with Cate Blanchett, Rose Byrne, Uzo Aduba, Elizabeth Banks, and many other powerful, talented women. Though many of the characters in Mrs. America share names with real people, Paulson plays a fictionalized character in Alice Macray.

On top of her many TV appearances, Paulson has had her fair share of film roles since joining Ryan Murphy’s go-to ensemble. In everything she does, she brings something different. Whether it’s a loving mother in Bird Box or a villain in Glass, the actress brings talent and expertise to the table. She loves a challenge, and we love to watch her in all of it!
