Does the question of ‘what if’ ever take you to your deepest, darkest desires? To who you were before you settled down into life as you currently know it? One of life’s biggest mysteries is what would have happened if you did something different–chose the riskier move, marry the wrong partner, or pick another job. Unfortunately, there is no way to know how vastly different or similar the outcome would be.

Netflix’s new drama series, Sex/Life, seeks to provide an answer to the question of ‘what if.’ Based on author B.B. Easton’s 44 Chapters About Men, Sex/Life, is about horny suburban housewife Billie Connelly, played by Sarah Shahi, and the newfound craving of her past life.

In Sex/Life, Billie Connelly is your typical, conventionally attractive, traditional mother and wife, married to Cooper Connelly, played by Mike Vogel. Her life is seemingly on track until ex-lover Australian hunk Brad Simon, played by Adam Demos, makes his way back into her life. Upon seeing him again, Billie starts to wonder where her old lifestyle went, reminiscing on who she used to be, what she used to do, and who she used to do (spoiler alert, it’s Brad). Brad would make her question if she chose the right path because of their wild past together. Cooper questions himself as a husband as he discovers Billie’s longing for who she was, and it is leading her dangerously far away from him. Billie challenges everything–except that she has desires and dreams that can only be fulfilled physically.

When asked about her decision to help create the show, executive producer Stacy Rukeyser told Forbes: “It was exciting for me to create a show that has this nostalgic version of the female sexual experience. I wanted to touch on the story of this woman remembering the best sex she’s ever had, which is so fun, but I wanted to do it in a way that was really empowering. This show isn’t framed around the kind of sex a man may like and whether or not a woman will agree to it. This is about her experience and she’s not objectified.”

So, is sex just really about sex? Netflix doesn’t leave too much to the imagination in the trailer, so watch here to get an idea of what to expect from a scandalous woman torn between past and present lovers while trying to get back to her former self:

Netflix has been cranking out new shows based on books lately that don’t disappoint, so I’ve got high hopes for this one!
