The Victorian Drama The Nevers on HBO
If you’re looking to add a little magic to your watchlist, PROVOKRs, look no further than the upcoming HBO series The Nevers. Premiering April 11, the Victorian supernatural drama will serve as a compelling option to spice up your weekly TV viewing experience.
The episodes revolve around two women: quick-fisted widow Amalia True (Laura Donnelly) and brilliant young inventor Penance Adair (Ann Skelly). Surrounding them is a world where people — primarily women — are born with supernatural powers.
The trailer brings this all to life in a beautiful, mysterious way. Those with extraordinary abilities cast flames from their hands, freeze grapes, and cause other magical things to happen. Amalia’s and Penance’s purposes are to shepherd the younger, new-to-the-powers women and teach them how to use them. Their job is also to fend off the authorities from harming those who have been “touched.”
The series comes from Buffy The Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon. Some reviews have called it a steampunk Buffy — and we dig it.
