OK, so, Adams doesn’t hold a mojor role in this Leonardo DiCaprio movie. Nonetheless you’ll do a double take when you realize the hospital volunteer is played by Adams herself.

AMERICAN HUSTLE
The costumes in American Hustle are almost as great as Adams’ performance. I said “almost.”

NOCTURNAL ANIMALS
Nocturnal Animals is incredibly underrated. Adams is sexy, seductive and suave as Jake Gyllenhaal’s ex-wife. It’s a mind trip, but it’s one worth taking.

SHARP OBJECTS
This HBO series is based on a Gillian Flynn novel, so you know it has to be good. Adams plays a alcoholic journalist who goes back to her hometown to get the scoop on child murders. It’s heavy but insanely thrilling.

VICE
Perhaps her biggest transformation in a role came with Adam McKay’s Vice. She plays Dick Cheney’s wife in a cold, removed portrayal.

DOUBT
Adams and the entire cast — Meryl Streep, Viola Davis, Phillip Seymour Hoffman — give amazing performances in this 2008 film. In fact, all of them were nominated for Oscars.

THE FIGHTER
In The Fighter, Adams is a hot, red-head bartender who starts a relationship with boxer Micky Ward (Mark Wahlberg). The film really packs a punch.

THE MASTER
The Master hails from acclaimed director Paul Thomas Anderson. It follows Joaquin Phoenix’s character as he (ironically) joins a cult. Adams plays one of its members.

ARRIVAL
This film is out of this world — quite literally. Adams stars as a linguist who is hired to communicate with aliens. On the surface, Arrival looks like a certain type of movie, but it’s so much deeper than what it appears to be.

HILLBILLY ELEGY
Her latest film was for Ron Howard’s Netflix adaptation of Hillbilly Elegy. Her and Glenn Close are an acting duo we want to see more often.
