Whether you went home for the holidays or decided to stay put, you likely have a lot of time on your hands. And with football dominating the Thanksgiving airwaves, you might be missing other sports you would normally be watching. We have you covered with this week’s steamy streaming, which looks at the best of the best in sport cinema.

ALI

Will Smith earned his first Oscar nomination as Cassius Clay, aka Muhammad Ali. The film focuses on Ali’s controversial decade from 1964 to 1974.

Ali is available on Showtime.

RAGING BULL

Raging Bull is regarded as one of the best boxing movies of all time — and for good reason. Young Robert De Niro is killer, and it got him his second Oscar.

Raging Bull is available on Cinemax.

CHARIOTS OF FIRE

The 1981 film Chariots of Fire follows two Olympic athletes from different religious backgrounds as they compete in the 1924 Olympics. The film is one of the most iconic sport movies of all time. I mean, who could forget the scene of them running on the beach.

42

Chadwick Boseman’s portrayal of Jackie Robinson is one we’ll always remember. He brought so much to the movie about the first Black player in Major League Baseball.

42 is available to rent on Amazon.

CREED

Chances are you’ve already seen Rocky, so if you haven’t gotten into its spinoff, Creed, you need to ASAP. Michael B. Jordan trains under Sylvester Stallone’s memorable character. Not to mention Tessa Thompson is in it. All the more reason to watch.

Creed is available to rent on YouTube,

I, TONYA

Margot Robbie was the perfect Tonya Harding in the mockumentary I, Tonya. The film told the story of the plot to take our Nancy Kerrigan. It’s a funny, dynamic sport masterpiece.

I, Tonya is available on Hulu.

FOXCATCHER

Foxcatcher follows the millionaire John du Pont as he enlists two wrestling brothers to get “Team Foxcatcher” to the Olympics. With the cast of Steve Carrell, Channing Tatum and Mark Ruffalo, this isn’t a film you should sleep on.

Foxcatcher is available to rent on Amazon.

THE WRESTLER

Speaking of wrestling, we can’t forget Darren Aronfsky’s The Wrestler. The 2008 drama received two Oscar nominations, including one for Mickey Rourke who played the lead.

The Wrestler is available on PlutoTV.

MILLION DOLLAR BABY

There is definitely no shortage of boxing movies, and their themes of one person conquering all seem to ring truer. Hilary Swank is positively amazing alongside Clint Eastwood. The film went on to win Best Picture at the Oscars, so it is certifiably one of the best sport movies of all time.

Million Dollar Baby is available on HBO Max.
