SEXY SUAVE OMAR SY
The Lead Of Netflix’s Hit Thriller Lupin

If James Bond is the ultimate gentleman hero, then Lupin is the foremost gentleman criminal. Netflix’s recent hit from France has been trending on the streaming service since its premiere on January 8 — and its lead, Omar Sy, is our latest man crush.
Sy’s career began in 2000, but his breakout role, in 2010, was on the French series SAV des émissions. It led to his international breakthrough in the 2011 film The Intouchables. The film is a beautiful, comedic portrait of a quadriplegic who hires Sy’s character to care for him. The movie was nominated for a Golden Globe that year.
Since then, he has shown off his indescribable talents in the Jurassic World and X-Men franchises. But Lupin is easily his most significant role to date. The Netflix Original is based on the long-standing French character Arsène Lupin, a gentleman thief. There have been books, shows, and manga comics about the iconic thief, but we have to say Sy’s interpretation is our favorite. Sy has said he always wanted to portray Lupin.
“My answer was Lupin,” he says. “If I was English I would say James Bond, but Lupin is the best character for that: he’s fun, funny, very elegant; there is action. Lupin is just the perfect character to cross [off] everything on the bucket list. You can do everything with that character. It is the perfect role.”
The seven-episode series will be released in two parts this year. And, there are already rumors of a season two. With the international success of Lupin, American audiences should expect to see more of him, especially with Jurassic World: Dominion on the way. We love the suave Omar Sy, and we’re so excited to see where he goes next.
