Netflix had viewers hooked in the third season of The Crown. The season was explosive and emotional. It started with KGB spies, a royal divorce, and a suicide attempt. The ten-episode season covered the mid-sixties through the early seventies. It focused on the Queen’s desire to hold onto power, protect her family’s reputation as well as the Monarchy itself.

Netflix released a trailer that hints the fourth season will not end with, “and they lived happily ever after.”  Tense scenes are woven into the trailer combined with Princess Diana and Margaret Thatcher. They promise love, power shifts, and tragedy. Here is what we know about the two new characters:

Gillian Anderson as Margaret Thatcher

Gillian Anderson- yes, Scully- will be joining the cast of The Crown this  season. She plays Margaret Thatcher, Britain’s first female Prime Minister. It will also show the contentious relationship between Thatcher and the Queen and it may rattle the Monarchy.

Emma Corrin as Diana, Princess of Wales

The trailer also proves the rumors are true. The Crown introduces Diana, the Princess of Wales. While Emma played Esme’s role in the Epix Television series Pennyworth, her role as Lady Di may be her breakout role. In a Variety YouTube video, Emma said, “I was really charmed by getting to know young Diana.” On playing the beloved princess, she added, “it was so intense.”

It isn’t easy to guess every plot twist, but viewers can be sure that this season of The Crown will show off Diana’s iconic wedding as well as her massive sapphire engagement ring.  As we mentioned, viewers will also witness the tumultuous relationship between Queen Elizabeth II and British Prime Minister Thatcher. Set your calendar for November 15th; you won’t want to miss the premiere episode.
