THE FIERCE NATALIE DORMER
From Game of Thrones to Penny Dreadful

If you take a quick peek at Natalie Dormer’s filmography, you will find a list full of badass female characters. The British beauty has been heating up screens and lending her amazing talents to projects since 2005. You’ve likely seen her in many productions, but you may not know her name. She is the quintessential “that girl.”
The 38-year-old’s most notable performance was as Margaery Tyrell on HBO’s epic hit Game of Thrones. As the wannabe queen and twice widow to Renly Baratheon and Joffrey Baratheon (she died before her third husband, Tommen), Natalie Dormer continued to show her strengths as a top-notch TV actress. Though she died in fires set by Cersei, Natalie Dormer loved watching the ending from her couch.

“I got the golden ticket, the perfect length of time,” she told Variety. “I watched Season 1 as a fan, came in the second season, did a good solid five years just as the show had this incredible explosion, and then I got out in time to watch the end and sit on the couch again.”
Right now, Natalie Dormer is playing Magda on Penny Dreadful: City of Angels. As a shape-shifting demon, Dormer (literally) wears many hats. She portrays a German immigrant, a player in the the Pachuco counter-culture scene and a less-than-pretty political aide for which she dawned a massive amount of makeup.
“A couple of the cast walked past me a few times before they realized it was me, when they hadn’t ‘met’ Alex yet. But as an actress, playing a character like that is so liberating because there’s absolutely no vanity attached,” she told Variety. “It’s like I would almost say to the camera operator, ‘What’s the worst angle? Put it in the worst, first.’”
That role is drastically different from the one she held on the PROVOKR favorite The Tudors. Natalie Dormer played Anne Boleyn in the Showtime series that revolves around King Henry VIII’s wives. Though she was only present for two seasons, Dormer made a lasting impression on the series.

Shortly after her Game of Thrones days, she played the insanely powerful and captivating Mrs. Appleyard in Amazon’s Picnic at Hanging Rock. The 6-part mystery allowed Natalie Dormer to lean into a different side of her acting.

But Natalie Dormer isn’t just a TV star. You might also remember her performance as Cressida in The Hunger Games series. Her half-shaved, tattooed head showed a badass woman who wasn’t going to let someone step all over her.

Dormer is a fierce force to be reckoned with in the TV world. Stream her works now and fall in love with Natalie Dormer.
