Anthony Mackie may be poised to have the biggest year of his career. WIth big studio series and Netflix films on the horizon, the 42-year-old actor breaks new professional ground while speaking out and supporting social issues.

Mackie is best known for his role as Falcon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As a friend of Captain America (played by Chris Evans through MCU’s Phase 3), he was on missions with Cap’s longtime bud Bucky, aka Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan). Together, the new duo will team up in the Disney+ series The Falcon and Winter Soldier.

Series production halted in 2020 due to COVID-19. It was slated for an August release, but production was delayed until new guidelines were developed.

In the midst of it all, Mackie spoke out about Marvel’s glaring diversity issue. He told Daveed Diggs (Snowpiercer) in a Variety interview that he has taken it upon himself to speak up and make a change in his gigs.

“When The Falcon and the Winter Soldier comes out, I’m the lead,” Mackie said. “When ‘Snowpiercer’ came out, you’re the lead. We have the power and the ability to ask those questions. It really bothered me that I’ve done seven Marvel movies where every producer, every director, every stunt person, every costume designer, every PA, every single person has been white.”

But The Falcon and Winter Soldier isn’t his only highly anticipated upcoming project. The Hurt Locker star will return to the war/action genre with Outside the Wire. It’s a project with a sci-fi twist. Premiering on January 15 on Netflix, Mackie leads the cast as a half-robot/half-human war machine.

Mackie is also part of the ensemble cast for The Woman in the Window. After several delays, the Amy Adams-led thriller has a home at Netflix and is part of the streamer’s massive slate of 2021 movies.

Anthony Mackie was already one of our favorites, so we’re excited to see him landing prominent roles for an impressive lineup this year. We hope you follow him, PROVOKRs.
