THE GOOD LORD BIRD
Ethan Hawke In An Abolitionist Story

Over the years, Showtime has provided us with captivating TV. From The L Word to Shameless, we’ve found our home on the provocative premium channel. That is set to continue with the announcement of the adaptation for The Good Lord Bird, in which acclaimed actor Ethan Hawke will star, write and produce.
The eight-part series is based on a 2013 novel of the same name by James McBride. It follows a slave named Little Onion of the Bleeding Kansas era. Throughout his life, the fictional Henry “Little Onion” Shackleford encounters historical figures of that time, including Frederick Douglass and Harriet Tubman. This is also where Ethan Hawke comes in. Little Onion participated in the Harper’s Ferry raids as organized by abolitionist John Brown.
The series comes from Blumhouse TV, which is part of the now-famous Blumhouse Productions that brought us Get Out, The Purge, BlackkKlansman and so much more. The dynamic company will likely bring new life to the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. Also signed on is director Anthony Hemingway, who has worked on series like True Blood and Shameless. It’s a show already full of buzz-generating talent that we can’t wait to see on screen. Be sure to check back here when the series’ trailer drops.
