THE HANDMAID’S TALE RETURNS

Hulu’s Hit Show Is Even More Relevant

It seems The Handmaid’s Tale continues to get more relevant as new seasons come out on Hulu. As abortion bans are making it to statehouses in four states, the themes in the Elisabeth Moss-led drama have infiltrated modern society even further. But with the new season arriving June 5, we might have inspiration and motivation to continue our own revolution for women’s rights.

The latest trailer for The Handmaid’s Tale answers a lot of the questions we have leftover from last season. It ended with June (Moss) handing over her newborn baby to Emily (Alexis Bledel) who will take it to safety. They were able to escape with the help of the inner circle of handmaids who have mobilized. Now June has to enlist the help of higher ups to get shit done.

Her first target is Serena Waterford, the wife of the commander. Serena is played by the beautiful Yvonne Strahovski, who should have won an Emmy for her performance in season two. The pair will likely team up to take down the system from the inside.

Following her escape — and the birth of her baby — June won’t return to Commander Waterford’s estate. Instead, it appears she ends up in the care of the relaxed and law-breaking Joseph Lawrence, who is played by the ever-regal Bradley Whitford. If there is anyone who can help June, it’s this guy. She also has Nick (Max Minghella), but we want to keep him alive and on the inside for as long as possible.

And then there’s Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd). You thought she was dead, right? So did we. Emily beat the crap out of her and escaped. We didn’t think Aunt Lydia would come back, but she’s in the trailer. It would not be surprising if June befriended (or blackmailed) Aunt Lydia into helping the resistance. But let’s be honest, June is going to be the real savior of Gilead.
