You thought you knew the story of Sherlock Holmes, didn’t you PROVOKRs? Well, think again. The upcoming Netflix series The Irregulars may alter your perceptions.

Set in Victorian London, a group of teens living on the streets and work with Dr. Watson at 221B Baker Street. They’re trying to solve the mysteries outlined in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classics but with a more supernatural twist. The boastful and extremely socially unaware Sherlock Holmes takes credit for their work. We imagine that will prove to be a significant conflict throughout its eight episodes.

The Irregulars were prominently featured in two Sherlock Holmes book: A Study in Scarlet and The Sign of the Four. In the books, a group of boys helped, but this series presents teens of multiple genders.

“We set out with that intention, why can’t they go into what is predominantly a man’s world and kick a bit of ass?” creator Tom Bidwell told Entertainment Weekly. “I wanted to stay away from things that are classic period Victorian, more like Dickensian stuff. I wanted to make it feel exciting and scary and very, very fresh so these characters are very accessible to a modern audience. They have problems that we have, they don’t speak in a period way, they speak to each other in a more contemporary way than you would probably expect from a Victorian adaptation.”

Based on the teaser — watch it by clicking the image above — the series will take on horrors worse than anyone imagines. What a scary thought! The Irregulars feature a relatively unknown cast, with Henry Lloyd-Hughes portraying Sherlock Holmes and Royce Pierreson serving as Dr. Watson. Thaddea Graham, Darci Shaw, Jojo Macari as Billy, McKell David, and Harrison Osterfield play the teenagers.
