Is This The New Outlander?
Well, PROVOKRs, the drOutlander continues as Starz’s time-traveling period piece Outlander just started production on its next season. But we have good news — as we always do. Starz feels our pain and has given us a new show to obsess over. Enter: The Luminaries.
Based on the novel of the same name by New Zealand author Eleanor Catton, The Luminaries follows Anna Wetherell (Eve Hewson, who stars in Netflix’s Behind Her Eyes) as she throws her hat into the New Zealand gold rush of the 1860s. There she meets Lydia Wells (Eva Green, of Penny Dreadful fame) and Emery Staines (Himesh Patel). What ensues is a lot of murder, mayhem and, yes, you guessed it, sex.
We were already hooked with the premise, but the cast of the cherry on top. Eve Hewson is just starting a successful career, and it seems like her trajectory is to stay in the thriller genre. Then there is the seductive Eva Green, who we love in Penny Dreadful. Then there is Himesh Patel, who has starred in films like Yesterday, Tenet and the upcoming star-studded venture Don’t Look Up.
By the looks of the trailer — watch it by clicking the image at the top of the screen — we are in for a dark, thrilling adventure. If it’s anything like Outlander, expect a few romps in the sheets with our main characters. Well, hopefully there are more than a few. Enjoy, PROVOKRs.
