Last year, King of TV Ryan Murphy gave us another binge-able obsession with The Politician. The dramedy starring Ben Platt as the politically ambitious Payton Hobart was a wild ride of high school antics. From hidden lovers to attempted murder and everything in between, it was Murphy at his best. And it’s back for season two.

Mysteriously, there is no trailer for the show and season two is only a week away. But that doesn’t mean we don’t know anything about what’s ahead.

Its inaugural season ended with a sad Payton — he lost his high school presidency — getting back in the groove with his friends, played by Theo Germaine, Lucy Boynton, Zoey Deutch, Laura Dreyfuss and Rahne Jones. His loving pals convince Payton to take on New York Senate Majority Leader Dede Standish (Judith Light), whose outdated campaign run by Chief of Staff Hadassah Gold (Bette Midler) shows its flaws. Not to mention, Dede is part of a secret throuple that could ruin her career.

And that’s where season two picks up. Payton and his intelligent friends are ready to take down Dede in a redemption election. It appears Payton isn’t the only one running, though. A new image of Gwyneth Paltrow’s character shows she might be in on the presidential bid. Coincidentally, that’s where Murphy sees Payton’s character going in season three.

“I think where season 2 ends, what I would love to do is take a couple of years off and have Ben Platt get a little bit older for his final race,” Murphy told Collider. “That would obviously be a presidential race, right? That’s always what we had designed, and I think that’s what our plan is.”

So, we might be waiting for the third season, but we have season two to keep us company for now. Happy binge-ing, PROVOKRs.
