The Pursuit of Love is a new Amazon Prime original romantic drama series based on the 1945 novel The Pursuit of Love by Nancy Mitford. In short, the story, set in Europe before World War II, follows a pair of cousins from the Radlett family, Linda and Fanny. As they grow together, they become two different people–Fanny emerges as a traditional family woman and marries one man while Linda follows her heart to marry different men. In other words, Fanny chooses the safe side of life, and Linda takes risks to make her life as exciting as she yearns for it to be. Curious to know more? Check out the trailer:
The three-episode series, written and directed by Emily Mortimer, stars Lily James as Fanny, Emily Beecham as Fanny Logan, Domonic West as Uncle Matthew, Emily Mortimer as The Bolter, Dolly Wells as Aunt Sadie, John Heffernan as Davey, Shazad Latif as Alfred Wincham, Annabel Mullion as Aunt Emily, Andrew Scott as Lord Merlin, Beattie Edmondson as Louisa Radlett, Freddie Fox as Tony Kroesig, James Frecheville as Christian Talbot, and Aki Omoshaybi as Langston Hughes.
When asked about the series and her relationship to the character, James told the BBC: “She is a wonderful character: free-spirited, passionate, impulsive, fiery, frustrating, selfish and a brilliant human-being. I was attracted to the story as the two women are so linked but so different. The subject matter feels completely relevant, it’s potent, nuanced… The choices she makes at times feel harsh and quite brutal but I instinctively feel I understand her and love her deeply. I recognise a lot of myself in her.”
The Pursuit of Love premiered on BBC One on May 9 in the United Kingdom and got great reviews from Radio Times, The Telegraph, The Independent, The Guardian, and The Financial Times. We cannot wait to be able to add to the reviews already floating around on the internet!
