A Descent Into The Real Upside Down
So you’ve likely heard of Son of Sam, the New York City serial killer who gave himself that name and killed six people because a demon housed in a dog told him to it. Yeah, it’s crazy, but it happened. Well, the Netflix true crime docuseries Sons of Sam: A Descent Into Darkness is looking to alter your perceptions forever.
The four-part series from Joshua Zeman follows the story of investigative journalist Maury Terry on his quest to link a satanic cult with the killings. David Berkowitz, the killer, even confirmed to Terry that his theory was correct, but he said no one would believe him. Perhaps that’s because he said the dog thing was a hoax and debunked a lot of other parts of the murders.
Terry kept pursuing nonetheless, and Zeman was able to interview him before his death in 2015. In the docuseries, though, Terry is brought to life by esteemed actor Paul Giamatti.
The series features archival footage of Terry’s televised interview with Berkowitz and interview’s with Terry’s family members. Maybe, just maybe, the series will show another side of the Son of Sam case you didn’t know about.
