THE WALKING DEAD REVIVED
Spinoffs + New Season Breathe Life Into TWD

When a show hits six or so seasons, a chorus of unloyal TV watchers may remark, “Oh, you’re still watching that?” And after ten seasons, The Walking Dead has experienced that same tonal shift. It seems, though, that is changing thanks to the tried and true method of taking the franchise approach.

The graphic novel turned TV series has plenty of supplemental material to adapt, so it was only a matter of time until Fear The Walking Dead and the new The Walking Dead: World Beyond emerged. (World Beyond begins in April and stars PROVOKR favorite Nico Tortorella.) Fear The Walking Dead started during the height of TWD obsession in 2015. But World Beyond is entering uncharted territory in the franchise’s history: in the middle of the lowest ratings ever for the series.

Now, it seems ratings don’t dictate much (thank god) in television anymore because streaming has changed habits. Viewers can now watch when they want and where they want. (TWD is available on Netflix, Fubo, Philo and AMC’s platform.) AMC has already renewed The Walking Dead for the 11th season, proving that low ratings mean next to nothing. Viewers will still find ways to tune in to these shows, and that is exactly what PROVOKR is doing.
TWD returned Sunday and we are already excited for what’s to come. Negan will undoubtedly wreak havoc on Alpha (they got down and dirty in the premiere), and Daryl is doing his thing as usual. And, as Danai Gurira prepares to exit the series, we anxiously await her character’s fate. All of this will perfectly tie into the spinoffs and bring about a new era of The Walking Dead and our obsessions.
