7 TV SPINOFFS WE NEED

Game Of Thrones, The Sopranos, Riverdale + more!

BY: Georgia Davis

A lot of people gripe about TV spinoffs and revivals, saying that there is no original ideas anymore. But we at PROVOKR have some ideas to spice up the spinoffs that come out every year. Some of these titles are actually in the works, but that’s not stopping us from putting our own take.

GAME OF THRONES

We already know the actual spinoff will take place 1000 years before the events of Game of Thrones, but the story we want to see is the one that happens just 100 years prior. The Targaryen family is, quite literally, insanely interesting, so its members would make great protagonists. Show us the Mad King and his rise and we have at least 4 seasons of watchable plot lines.

THE SOPRANOS

How great would it be to revive The Sopranos? Yes, it’s TV perfection, but we can add a little flair. Let’s make it in modern day Sicily with Meadow running the show. That’s something we would binge all day long.

ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK

The finale of OITNB left the series wide open for one of the show’s characters. Maritza Ramos (played by Diane Guerrero) is taken into ICE custody and deported. The moment is heartbreaking, which is exactly why Netflix should take this opportunity to make a show all about her life following the deportation. It’s an important time to be elevating stories like that.

PINKERTONS

The Pinkertons only lasted for one season, and it was about a father and son teaming up with the first woman detective, Kate Warne. Warne was a badass woman who didn’t need the men in the narrative at all. Give us a Mindhunter type show where she tracks down the biggest bandits in the Wild West. That’s the female narrative we need.

THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW

OK, this might seem out of left field, but hear us out. Remember Opie? In this reboot, we’ll follow Opie as a big time director. And in case you forgot, Opie is played by Ron Howard, a big time movie director. It all works out perfectly.

FRESH OFF THE BOAT

Instead of immigrants from Taiwan in the 1990s, there should be a TV show about Italian, German and Irish immigrants during the Gilded Age. Naturally, the show wouldn’t be all humor. In fact, we’re picturing a dark take on that time. It’ll definitely be watchable.

RIVERDALE

The first trailer for Katy Keene dropped, and the show takes place within the Archie Comics Universe. Here’s another idea: We want to see the adults in the show in their teenage years. We want to see what the Serpents were like when Betty’s mom was in it. That would be stellar.
