TV SUMMER PREVIEW

6 Shows To Add To Your Watchlist

BY: Georgia Davis

As the weather heats up, so do our TVs. Primetime and streaming are looking to add new shows and bring back fan-favorites this summer. The Handmaid’s Tale and Big Little Lies will make their triumphant return, and HBO will premiere Euphoria, a show with Zendaya. Here are the shows you should add to your watchlist this summer:

BIG LITTLE LIES

Season one of Big Little Lies was a monumental occasion. The adult Pretty Little Liars brought enough drama that made it easy to binge. The trailer is finally out for season two, which will debut June 9 on HBO. The promo reveals Madeline (Reese Witherspoon), Celeste (Nicole Kidman), Jane (Shailene Woodley), Renata (Laura Dern) and Bonnie (Zoë Kravitz) are now referred to as “The Monterey Five.” That nickname of course stems from Perry (Alexander Skarsgard)’s death, which brings a new character into the mix — Perry’s mom played by the can-do-no-wrong Meryl Streep. It’s shaping up to be an equally captivating season.

THE HANDMAID’S TALE

Are you frustrated with June (Elisabeth Moss) yet on The Handmaid’s Tale? In case you forgot, she decided to stay in Gilead and hand her baby over to Emily (Alexis Bledel). Ugh. The first promo for the show’s third season premiered during the Super Bowl, but not in the usual way. They made it out to be empowering to women, then the full promo kicks in to show it’s the women in the oppressive society rebelling. It’s safe to say we can’t wait to see what hell June raises this season.

CATCH-22

This George Clooney-led miniseries comes a little sooner than the rest of the titles on the list. We can’t keep you waiting too long for all of these; we want to give you one to look forward to right now. The Hulu original debuts May 17 and is based on the classic Joseph Heller novel. Girls actor Christopher Abbott assumes the role of our main character, Yossarian. Clooney will take on the role of Scheisskopf. The World War II drama is sure to pique your interest.

STRANGER THINGS

It’s not spooky season yet, but the creators of Stranger Things are ensuring you a mid-year scare with its season three premiere set for July 4. The Netflix Original has garnered a following like no other since it first debuted in 2016. The Upside Down is still prospering, and we’re likely to confront many monsters in season three. Personally, we can’t wait to see Steve (Joe Keery) back in action in the ‘80s-inspired show.

YOUNGER

This TVLand gem has found its footing in socially conscious comedies. The sitcom has a loyal fan base and a cast that will make you swoon. Season five ended with a bombshell: Josh (Nico Tortorella)’s ex(?)-wife showed up at his door very pregnant. It was poor timing because he was going to try winning Liza (Sutton Foster) back. Meanwhile, Kelsey (Hilary Duff) is balancing relationships with two men, one of whom is her author. Scandalous! With no trailer out yet, all we know is season six will premiere June 12.

EUPHORIA

The beautiful, talented Zendaya is leading the new HBO series Euphoria, which is slated for a June 16 debut. It’s pegged as a coming-of-age show where a group of high school students battle with sex, drugs and violence all while trying to figure out who they truly are. The steamy trailer will reel you in and make you want to watch — at least it does for us.
