White Famous: a new comedy
Jay Pharoah and Jamie Foxx star on Showtime!
Showtime is gearing up to launch a new comedy this fall, starring Jay Pharoah (Saturday Night Live) and Jamie Foxx, White Famous. Loosely based on the early career of Jamie Foxx (who produces the show in addition to starring as himself), Jay Pharoah plays a not-so-young-anymore comedian on the cusp of becoming a movie star in Hollywood. He finds it’s difficult to keep it real, so to speak, in a town as wacky and over-the-top as the city itself, Los Angeles.
In addition to Pharoah and Foxx, the show also features Meagan Good (Minority Report), Natalie Zea (Justified), and Michael Rappaport, fresh off his heartwarming (and scene-stealing!) turn on Netflix‘s family comedy/drama, Atypical.
Showtime thrives on off-kilter dramas and comedies that are too quirky for other premium cable networks. HBO may have Game of Thrones and The Sopranos, but Showtime has Dexter, Weeds, and Ray Donovan. A cross-dressing Jamie Foxx is a natural fit for Showtime, which prides itself on being an “island of misfit shows.”
White Famous debuts October 15 on Showtime.
