FX has had a stellar year when it comes to their lineup of shows. Dave Season 2 and Season 1 of Reservation Dogs have been must-see TV for me. Because of this, I was excited to see that the network had picked up a show based on the comic, Y: The Last Man.

To make a long story short, Y: The Last Man was created in 2002, became critically acclaimed, and soon a movie adaptation was announced. After several script rewrites and director changes, it was announced that the movie was becoming a show on FX. After a few cast and production changes last year, it finally debuted this year.

The plot follows a world where all of the men have mysteriously died simultaneously. In the aftermath, what’s left of the world’s governments struggle to keep things together as society descends into chaos. Meanwhile, one man, an escape artist named Yorick, has actually survived and his mother has become President of The United States. All Yorick wants to do is find his fiance but he realizes that finding the cause of this androcide might be a little more important.

Transgender men exist in this world since they were originally born as women before transitioning. One character talks about how shocked women are when they see him because they thought all of the men were. Without men, the world struggles to work as many industries were dominated by men. Now, women have to learn how to do the work from the few women who already know how to.

This story made for a great comic book and so far it’s a great show. I can’t wait to see how much of the book it covers this season. Y: The Last Man can be found on FX on Hulu where new episodes premiere every Wednesday.
