Zelda

Sex, drugs and the Charleston

It’s high time F. Scott Fitzgerald stepped aside. After many appearances on the screen, page, and high school reading lists, it’s safe to say that the man has gotten his due. But the woman? Zelda? Fitzgerald’s better, sexier, and crazier half was a dancer, socialite and a damn fine author in her own right. And thanks to Amazon’s new Z: The Beginning of Everything (which premiered online in 2015 but won’t be continued until the end of January), Zelda (played by Christina Ricci) now finally gets her much-needed time in the spotlight.

Set before Zelda and Fitzgerald tied the knot, Z promises to follow Fitzgerald’s muse through the beginnings of her fiery romance with the dashing young author and beyond—into fame, fortune, and, finally, tragedy and oblivion. Don’t let the old-timey feel fool you: there was nothing puritanical about either the 20’s or the original flapper girl. Though too ahead of her time, the 21st century appears to be a perfect fit for Zelda. Let the good times (read: sex, booze, and jazz) roll!
