Babamimoun

Brother From Another Planet

BY: Dante Fresse

Babamimoun from Speakman Sound is a psychedelic and mysterious experience with a unique sound that borrows from India’s culture to reflect history. With Blade Runner visuals and cityscapes, this video explores urbanity. The story is complex and uses labor and police brutality as fictional characters to hurt one another. The film takes place on an unknown planet dominated by aliens. The plot gradually reveals the development of a world, but one without equality. This imbalance unearths problems between authority and the citizens of this world.

Babamimoun explores human relationships with itself and the spiritual, illustrating how it all develops and fuses the body and mind with the earth. The visuals are in electric shades of blue sky and industrial tones. Both challenge each other. The interplay between light and dark makes a surreal combination. The psychedelic dance sequences in a downtrodden club combine water and land to represent a raw spirituality.

Each sequence features different visuals that help to build a world where movement is fluid. It’s a world that is unique and intriguing. However, each terrain is affected by people moving through space. In the final scene, we watch launching aircraft to signify another step in human evolution. Celebration is a common theme in this film. Speakman Sound produced this project and the visuals come from Eidy Knowles. Patrick Lee of Speakman Sound composed the audio. PROVOKR thinks this video is a blast and suggests you watch this Vimeo top pick. Here’s the link to Babamimoun by Speakman Sound.
