El Viento Sobre Los Pinos is a short documentary film titled that describes a painter’s life as he ages and loses his family in a region of the Balearic archipelago. Gilbert Herreyns is the isolated painter who creates his works in a scenic oasis. The director of this film is Guillermo Irriguible, and the film was released in 2020.  Near the sea, Herreyns takes photographs of the expansive land and seascapes nearby. There are stills of the sea and the terrain. Island shots blend with Herreyns’ past and present images, which include biking with his family and sitting by the ocean.

There is a beautiful area where Herreyns mimics the thought patterns of a human being and meditates despite a strong wind. On boat rides, Herreyns captures lighthouses in pictures and photographs. He has footage of painting in his workshop, alongside his partner and herb farming. Moreover, the island topography is illustrated beautifully with drone shots.

The artist’s partner died in 1974, so Herreyns was left alone with a child. His paintings reflect nature, and his workshop is painted blue to reflect the sky and sea. He takes inspiration from the land, so every time Herreyns looks to the window, he intakes new ideas for his paintings. The film is shot in Super 8, and there are 35 mm photographs that show off the landscape with an authentic aesthetic. There is a fascination with the sea that is showcased in Herreyns work. The creations also show off and blend into the ecosystem of his family life. Herreyns’ community reflects the paradise that the artist constructs through the blending of his art and daily life.
