Fuck You is a racy drama from Sweden about a young woman exploring sexuality with friends. It’s an award winning short film, with accreditation from TIFF, SXSW, Locarno, and Sundance, which draws on themes of adolescence, sex, friends, and journey. Alice, the protagonist, and her friends steal from a sex shop and go out to the park to meet with a group of guys. While Alice is hooking up with her boyfriend, Johannes, the other girls tease them. They play with coins at the skatepark and invent a game. The loser must take a hit in the knuckles from someone with the cash. Alice loses and demands a new opponent, Alexis, to strike her hard, but he refuses, angering her. In the forest, she escapes with her friends and plays with the sex toys.
As she shows a sex toy to Johannes, he insults her for not knowing how to use it. Alice seduces him and ends up seducing the whole party. The video carefully shows her evolution through her impressions of men. Alice is a trendsetter, leading her group of friends and pushing boundaries. It all culminates when Alice convinces Johannes to have sex using the strap on she stole from the sex shop. The experience and her knowledge of sex open Johannes to a deeper understanding of sex.
Yandeh Sallah is great as Alice, and Anette Sidor directs these young people’s worlds beautifully using intimate shots and capturing shared moments between characters. TJ Miansangi is a perfect Alexis and has an amicable relationship with Alice while competing with Johannes for her affection. Alice also creates tension and drama with all the characters around her. She makes her world risky, adventurous, exciting, and suspenseful for others who cling to rigid parameters at times. PROVOKR loves the visuals and messages, and we think you will, too.
