GOLDEN GOOSE’S COOL FILMS
As If The Shoes Weren't Enough

Light in a Golden Night is a great new short. It is a sexy and fun film produced by Golden Goose. The short is a first in a series of selected shorts from the shoe brand, and it’s sure to knock your socks off. This plot follows the transaction of a glowing pocketbook between various people, using a dressed up cowboy as the liaison for the exchanges. It’s exciting to see the film, as it has a Quentin Tarantino aesthetic with its retro visuals and character designs. The title lettering even has traces of a grind house or ’70s film.
The film opens with a strange dance sequence between a leather-jacketed crusader and a cowboy, using intercut title cards to reveal the name of the film: Light in a Golden Night. This is all played against the song “Fire Dance” by Seun Kuti + Fela’s Egypt 80. “Fire Dance” plays throughout the film at different parts. The protagonist, who is the Cowboy, dances his way from scene to scene, picking up the golden bag from various women. Everyone seems enamored by the bag and it functions similarly to how Quentin Tarantino’s glowing briefcase does in Pulp Fiction. Essentially, it is a macguffin to display the interactions between characters in this film and create a sense of continuity in the plot.
The mise-en-scene and design are really the key features which create the power of this film. Set design pulls you into this world of the ’70s. There are signs which encourage the feel of the time and the costumes all present the characters as incarnations of the past. PROVOKR encourages you to see this video and dive into a cool, sexy world that all gets kicked off by the exchange of a golden bag.
