Growing Up Gay: a BBC doc
Years & Years singer Olly Alexander opens up

In this vital BBC documentary, Growing Up Gay, lead singer of the British band Years and Years and queer icon Olly Alexander discusses his journey from a vulnerable, depressed teen to his place in the gay community as an outspoken supporter of at-risk teens.
Through his own struggle with long-term depression and severe anxiety, Olly learned that 40 percent of LGBT+ people suffer from mental health issues including drug addiction, bulimia, homelessness, self mutilation, and thoughts of suicide. Olly got the help he needed through therapy, but knew there was more that had to be done, especially for teenagers coming out.
In this video, we see Olly reaching out to those in need, offering a strong shoulder to lean on and an open mind to whatever their problems may be. As his star rises in the pop music scene, his ability to reach out to more susceptible queer kids grows, making his place in the gay community even more valuable.
