GUNPOWDER MILKSHAKE
Violently Adorable Trailer With Lena Headey

Gunpowder Milkshake is an action thriller with an all-star cast. It features Lena Headey and Karen Gillan as Scarlet and Sam, mother-daughter hitwomen. Directed and written by Navot Papushado and Ehud Lavski, Carla Gugino, Angela Bassett, and Michelle Yeoh are experienced killers. This “sisterhood” fights off a gang of villains who try to take Emily, a young girl played by Chloe Coleman. Emily’s grandmother and adopted mom are Scarlet and Sam. The secret society of “sister” assassins lives in a gun storage disguised as a library. Sam steps into this world as a bastard not aware of her family history. The film unravels her story along with her mother’s in a Tarantino-esque manner. Paul Giamatti plays Nathan, a ruthless crime lord. Relationships develop through shootings and morals prevail in spite of the antagonists’ power.

Gunpowder Milkshake is a classic story about revenge that leaves audiences on the edge of their seats. When Giamatti says, “Sam you killed the wrong people, you are no longer under our protection,” it brings heightened tensions to the storyline. The look of the trailer is jarring, with quick cuts between massive shooting scenes. Funny moments like when Emily asks Sam if “she’s a serial killer” break the ice.

Papushado’s former films include Big Bad Wolves (2013), another revenge story about a father on the hunt for his daughter, with torture, death, and shooting in between, and Rabies (2010), centering on a group of kids lost in a forest where a murderer preys on them. He’s no stranger to psychological thrillers. Quentin Tarentino said Big Bad Wolves was the “best movie of the year” in 2013 and the Hollywood Reporter said it was “impossible to forget.” With a bigger cast and better talent, Gunpowder Milkshake looks to be another masterpiece.

This is set to be a joy ride. The film is scheduled for release on July 14, 2021, and will stream on Netflix.
