Holy Moses is a period piece set in the grim world of Northern Ireland. This project is a pitch for a feature film and connects the life of a troubled nun to a gas station employee in the American West. A cow teleports across continents to appear dead in a gas station, puzzling the young worker and town sheriff. Men in hazmat suits come to disarm the situation. It’s revealed there’s a mystical connection between the young gas station worker and the nun. The relationships in this film are stunning. With stark and moving cinematography, this story of the birth of Moses is told with stunning poise and power.

Its written and directed by Eli Powers and stars Amanda Seyfried and Phillip Ettinger. Seyfried also serves as an executive producer on the project. The film’s grandiose philosophical claims take form in spellbound narrative which portrays symbolism with strong visuals. PROVOKR is really excited about this project. The costume designer shifts from 1950s Ireland to West Texas beautifully, capturing the difference of the places. Justice, the lead, is a Texan with delusions of witnessing fires and miracles, who gets denounced by the head of the church who mysteriously visits the desert region where the cow appears to “clean-up-the-mistake.” The plot opens up gradually and the audience gets wrapped in it pretty immediately. It asks for a second watch, elevating in understanding more after each viewing.

This short film is a delight to watch after last night’s Emmys and promises a progressive viewing into the double-natured ways of short storytelling. It bookends so to speak on two parts of the film, making way for richer narrative development. The film is deep and promises a rewarding experience. Let’s hope it gets converted to a feature film. I hope you enjoy and we look forward to your takes on it!
