Video Master Madonna
Past is present in Medellin

It is definitely not a surprise or a cheap attempt to ride the Latin pop wave that Madonna released a very sexy song with Colombian reggaeton singer Maluma for the single “Medellin” from her upcoming album release Madame X. She and team have produced a spectacular music video, really a Madonna film, to accompany the song. What is a surprise is that she weaves flashbacks of her past into the present.
From her first Latin influenced song “La Isla Bonita” in 1986 to Evita, Madonna has had Latin rhythm pumping in her soul and frequently in her bed. She has always been attracted to Latin men and women, the culture and the sounds. When her career was just getting really hot she was seen slipping away with 3 young Latin men in a limo from a hot dance club in downtown Manhattan and let’s not neglect her stunning Cuban lover of many years, Ingrid Casares. Love of all things Latin is part of Madonna’s world as everything in the music video is. She has delivered a perfect Latin influenced sexy, stylish song and video with the gorgeous Maluma, “Medellin“.
The video is another tour de force for Madonna. First she appears on screen, without a note of music, honestly praying to God on her knees in her way, part confessional and part angry, a homage to “Like a Prayer“. After a horse riding scene because Madonna loves horses we are now entering a dance class. Now she fully transforms into Madame X, a very strict cha cha dance instructor with a red eyepatch and a riding crop to provide that particular and perfect Madonna BDSM tension and we are reminded of the flawless steamy “Erotica”. We are taken on a wild ride of love at first sight evolving into a very color rich and smartly cast kind of David LaChapelle meets Felini scene of a Latin wedding extravaganza. Madonna is decked out in a white wedding gown and we can feel a heavy nod to “Like a Virgin”. The video was directed by Diane Kunst and Mau Morgo.
Madonna has always treated music videos as an art form and in her hands they really are. She kept her cinematic commitment on “Medellin”. We hope, no we pray, there is more video artistry to come from the Master, Madonna, with the full release of her album Madame X.
