The COVID-19 pandemic has forced fashion creatives to think outside the runway when debuting new collections. Marni’s launch of the S/S 2021 collection takes the award for the most inventive execution.

In an experimental, CCTV-esque format, Creative Director Francesco Risso and Telfar’s Creative Director Babak Radboy put together a first-person POV film called MARNIFESTO. Launched in September, the ever-evolving digital film puts the camera in the hands of 50 models. It gives them the power in the shoot as they use their phones to capture the real-life runway.

As they weave through cities wearing clothing from the line, we feel what the runway’s atmosphere and energy may lack. They show off the line in the most ordinary places — subways, grocery stores, the streets — turning the mundane into beautiful runways. It feels personal, allowing the audience to picture themselves doing everyday activities in the most stunning clothing pieces.

The last 18-minutes of the hour-long project are just those clips in a verisimilitude. It feels authentic and accessible, as if the models’ runways are in your home. Watch the fantastic project above.
