Joan Smalls and Karlie Kloss Get Tough Again

Photographer Nick Knight’s new video, “Mean Streets,” is an homage to the ’50s with colorful lighting and an exciting aesthetic to mark the tenth anniversary of the Spring/Summer 2011 collection from British Vogue named Rockabilly. Knight directed the 2011 video, “Mean Streets,” and this 2021 remake is in honor of Knight’s work.

Knight is a renowned fashion photographer, director of Showstudio.com, and has frequently collaborated with stars like Kanye West and Lady Gaga to produce award winning work in fashion. He has an impressive dossier and has shown work at “Tate Modern, Victoria & Albert Museum, Saatchi Gallery, National Portrait Gallery, the Photographers’ Gallery, Hayward Gallery and the Gagosian Gallery” (Nickknight.com). “Mean Streets” is another example of the skill and renowned artistic technique exhibited by Nick Knight. The look of the video is neo-noir and has beautiful imagery, mixing urban lights with exquisite photography to create a series of images. Knight shot and directed the models, while “Stylist Kate Phelan dressed models Karlie Kloss and Joan Smalls [in] collections of the season, including Chanel, Miu Miu, Burberry Prorsum, Balmain and Roberto Cavalli” (Showstudio.com). The video was released on March 21, 2021, and echoes Nick Knight’s previous work with Christian Dior, Marc Jacobs, and Gucci.
