Novo Amor’s Birthplace
The Sensual Power of the Ocean

Starring British freediving record holder, Michael Board, Nova Amor’s latest music video for his song “Birthplace” creates an atmospheric piece of art that is only enhanced by the positive environmental message that it sends out. Through stunning shots of a submerged man exploring the beauty and wildlife of a coral reef, Cinematographer Nihal Friedel creates a mesmerizing seascape in which the story unfolds.
As if the visuals of this music video were not breathtaking enough, Novo Amor (a pseudonym for Welsh musician Ali Lacey) provides airy but soothing vocals that pairs beautifully with the slow movements in the video.
While possibly also a poetic tale of a man deciding that he can’t be friends with a former partner if he ever wants to move on (I don’t want a friend / I don’t want to let it in again). Lacey’s lyrics also allude to the way humans currently perceive the future of our planet. With the line “It’s still our nest / unknown a better place”, Lacey hints at the fact that for the most part, humanity puts more importance on finding a “better place” to live (i.e. Mars), neglecting the fact we wouldn’t have to find a new home if we just treated our planet with the kindness and respect that you would show to a friend or loved one.
This idea of highlighting the importance of having a loving relationship with the sea turtles, the fish, the stingrays, and every other living creature on the planet is reflected in every frame of this touching and visually stunning music video.
