Riding the Wild Beast
A Horseman Rounds Up His Stallions

Nestled in between Yellowstone Park and Big Sky, under the majestic Rocky Mountains, sits the famous 9 Quarter Circle Ranch, a dude ranch outside of Bozeman, Montana, that offers authentic cowboy experiences to visitors from around the world. Run by the Kelsey family for more than 100 years, the 9QC may be a fun-filled vacation for its guests, but operating the spread is a real job for young herdsman, Kameron Kelsey, the third generation steward of the 9QC, and the star of this equine documentary.
The film crew shot the magnificent animals running the fields while Kameron waxes poetic on the rugged western lifestyle he’s chosen. Every year, he wrangles 120 glorious steeds for the yearly trip down the mountain where they spend the harsh winters in more protected quarters, and then back up in the spring when it’s time to open the ranch to guests. The three-day trek is hard but it’s a challenge Kameron couldn’t live without. This eight-minute film shows the proud but unassuming Horseman as he does what he loves best: being one with the exquisite animals in the wild, wild west.
