In a new short film, Goldman v Silverman by the Safdie Brothers, Adam Sandler takes on a starring role to portray a gold painted entertainer working in New York City. Benny Safdie, who acts and directs the short, plays a spray painted silver man who competes with Adam Sandler’s gold-man performer for the attention of New Yorkers. The two snip back and forth at each other to ensure that there is a hierarchy and dominance to obtaining the attention of passersby. The short runs 6 minutes and is produced by A24, alongside Scott Rudin and Eli Bush.

The short film is a followup to the 2019 smash hit Uncut Gems, a feature film directed by Josh and Benny Safdie and starring Adam Sandler. The film was panned by critics and is the directorial follow-up to the Safdie Brothers 2017 feature project, Good Time, with Robert Pattinson. Goldman v Silverman is also produced by A24 and carries the same eerie vibe that distinguished Uncut Gems from other movies that year.

Goldman v Silverman is a subtle film which captures the nuanced performances of Benny Safdie and Adam Sandler. Both are capable actors who cultivate angst and power on the screen. The contest which these actors entertain shape their relationship. Benny tries to take Sandler’s turf, while Sandler responds by spraying gold paint over the silverman’s painted exterior. The film captures an atmosphere of New York City which is dark and weird but necessary to the ethos created by the New York born Safdies. This short is a perfect fit in the world of PROVOKR, embracing the dark underbelly of New York society and painting an image of life in NYC through the eyes of the socially oppressed.
