SKRILLEX’S DOPE FILM
Gyrating and Twitchy "Butterflies"

Skrillex’s new video “Butterflies” is a sonic exploration of movement, directed by Maddie Miller, Ben Todd-Jones, Holly Brennan, Tyrese Mckenzie, Devonte Sackitey, Zirihi Zadi, Aden Dzuda, Jamie Bell, and Lauryn Bryan. This music video has over 11,000 views on Vimeo after being released. Skrillex combines electronic sounds with a mix of brilliant choreography and talented dancers who bring the piece to life.

“Butterflies” features artists Starrah and Four Tet. The philosophy behind the video is to encourage freedom and expression from young voices hampered by the COVID quarantine. Starrah is American, and Four Tet is from the UK.

The video has a short skit in the middle between two friends who argue and ignore texts during the uncertain environment of COVID. Skrillex debuts his electronic signature style with significant chords and vocals, giving the piece an upbeat and powerful feel. This song is addicting, and you may want to hear it again and again.

Skrillex has enjoyed widespread fame and success since 2009 with the premiere of the EP, My Name is Skrillex. His 2010 project, Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites, was nominated for a Grammy, winning one for “Best Dance/Electronica Album.” Since then, Skrillex has performed at Coachella and E-Zoo, bringing a signature brand of electronica to his music. The dubstep wave took Skrillex in, and he amped up the genre with music that now branches out to new production areas through innovative artist collaborations.

“Butterflies” is a mixture of house and electronic dubstep, bridging related genres but adding an edge to the generic quality of each sound. The dancing is remarkable. This video is available on Vimeo and is produced by Biscuit Frameworks, a UK production company. The executive producer, Rupert Reynolds-Maclean, has done work for Biscuit Frameworks for four years and has a background in commercials. Welcome to the new era of Skrillex.
